The Bond Store Museum is located in the historic Wharf Street Precinct. The historical significance of the building itself together with its picturesque setting adjacent to the Mary River and bordering Queens Park make it an ideal location for a tourist venue.
The Bond Store represents the development of Maryborough as an important river port during the pre-Federation era, with each addition to the building indicating a period of economic expansion of the early Queensland economy. The building also illustrates the extent of the import and export trade and the liquor bonding process of the time.
The first Bond Store was constructed in 1864 and was a simple rectangular building which is currently the rear section of the present Bond Store running parallel to Macalister Street. This was a single storey building and is actually the rear lower level only of the present building.
