Located on the banks of the Murray River, the museum is housed in what was the Turks Head Inn, which was constructed in the late 1850s. The building was used as a hotel until it was de-licensed in 1922. Acquired by the Albury City Council in the early 1980s, it became the Regional Museum in 1983.
Exhibition areas include the Wiradjuri Dreaming Room (a developing exhibition about the Aboriginal people of the region); the Settlers Room (discovery and change in Albury Wodonga); the Chinese on the Border and the Pyjama Girl Mystery. The Museum is also home to the Bonegilla Collection, a collection of photographs, documents, objects and written experiences that explore and interpret the diversity of the Bonegilla experience.
