The Launceston Planetarium is part of the Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. The 45-seat planetarium presents shows on a range of different aspects of astronomy.
Images of the southern night sky are projected onto a domed ceiling, 8 metres across, and additional effects and narration go together to make each programme a complete audiovisual production, written and produced at the Planetarium.
The planetarium projector, the heart of the system, displays all the stars visible to the unaided eye from the southern hemisphere, and simulates the apparent motion of the stars as the Earth rotates. The effect is so realistic, it is like being out under the stars!
