The Pearl Luggers display in Dampier Terrace, Broome, has recaptured and brought to life the essence of Broome’s fascinating and exciting pearling history.

Our display features two beautifully restored 1957 Broome built pearling luggers, the Sam Male and the DMcD.

Both vessels, named after early 1900 pearling masters, have been placed in a reconstructed tidal jetty on the foreshores of Dampier Terrace, where at the turn of the century some 400 vessels were based.

Now 100 years later, These vessels are the last of only a handful of pearling luggers still in existence, and the only two original Broome built luggers still in the township.
